In 1995, a small group of people from churches associated with the Baptist Union of Western Canada, met to share their views that a new Baptist church was needed in the rapidly growing residential area of Richmond Hill in southwest Calgary.
Initially the group met in various homes for Bible study, prayer and fellowship before being officially organized as a church in 1996.
History of Richmond Hill Baptist Church

The church immediately began efforts to build a house of worship and study. A two acre site was purchased and an architect was retained and plans were prepared for a multi-functional building which would accommodate 600 people. Shortly after beginning construction, the church found it was unable to secure sufficient financing to complete the project.
The Canadian Convention of Southern Baptists agreed to assume this church plant and building project. Dr. Allen Schmidt left his post as Executive Director-Treasurer of the Canadian Convention of Southern Baptists and became Senior Pastor of Richmond Hill Baptist Church on August 1, 1998. At that time, there were about 35 people attending Sunday services. God led and provided through many challenges and times of uncertainty and the church moved into the new building in November 1999.
After completion of the building, the church was blessed with increasing numbers of families and addition of new ministries to reach our community. In March 2003, we welcomed Dr. Shane Spannagel as our new Senior Pastor following the retirement of Dr. Allen Schmidt.
God has continued to guide and bless Richmond Hill Baptist Church with a diverse and dynamic congregation of over 250 people. We have exciting ministries for people of all ages and are excited about "Sharing the Love of God with Everyone".
